A goalkeeper's job is to stop goals, but a small group of keepers have made scoring their trademark. KickHour.com ranks the ten goalkeepers with the most career goals, led by Brazil's Rogério Ceni, whose total is almost double that of anyone else.

The KickHour Top 10 Goal-Scoring Goalkeepers

  1. Rogério Ceni (Brazil), about 131 goals. Club: São Paulo (1990–2015). Scored roughly 70 penalties and 60 free kicks, almost all for a single club. This is the all-time record.
  2. José Luis Chilavert (Paraguay), 67 goals. Clubs: Vélez Sarsfield, Real Zaragoza, Strasbourg and others (1982–2004). 59 came for clubs and 8 for Paraguay, the most international goals by a goalkeeper.
  3. Jorge Campos (Mexico), 46 goals. Clubs: Pumas UNAM, Atlante, LA Galaxy (1988–2004). A large share of his goals came while he played as a striker for Pumas.
  4. Johnny Vegas Fernández (Peru), 45 goals. Clubs: 14 clubs in a long career, starting at Sport Boys. 40 of his goals came in the Peruvian top flight, mostly from penalties.
  5. René Higuita (Colombia), 43 goals. Clubs: Atlético Nacional, Veracruz and others (1985–2009). Scored mainly from penalties and free kicks, and famous for playing far outside his penalty area.
  6. Dimitar Ivankov (Bulgaria), 42 goals. Clubs: Levski Sofia, Kayserispor, Bursaspor (1996–2012). The highest-scoring European goalkeeper, with his goals coming from penalties.
  7. Fábio Rampi (Brazil), about 42 goals. Club: Ferroviária (joined September 2026; previously São José-RS, 2015–2026). The top-scoring active goalkeeper in the world, so his total can still rise.
  8. Márcio (Brazil), 40 goals. Clubs: Atlético Goianiense, Goiás, Goiânia (retired 2019). 37 of his goals came for Atlético Goianiense.
  9. Fernando Patterson (Costa Rica), 35 goals. Clubs: Xelajú, Cobán Imperial, Puntarenas, Ramonense (1989–2013).
  10. Hans-Jörg Butt (Germany), 33 goals. Clubs: VfB Oldenburg, Hamburger SV, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich (1994–2012). 26 of his goals came in the Bundesliga, mostly from penalties.

Still Scoring Today
Rampi leads the active goalkeepers, and keepers such as Argentina's Gaspar Servio and Brazil's Tiago Volpi are still adding to their totals.

A Note on the Numbers
Career goal totals for goalkeepers vary slightly between record-keepers, mainly for Ceni (129 or 131), Higuita (41 or 43) and Rampi (35 to 44, depending on what is counted). KickHour shows the most widely reported figures.
