India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando were fined 25% of their match fees and handed one demerit point each following an on-field altercation during the second Test in Colombo.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that both players were sanctioned for breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, relating to inappropriate physical contact between players. Both Jaiswal and Fernando admitted the offence and accepted the Level 1 penalties.
The incident added another talking point to an already closely watched India-Sri Lanka Test, with India pushing for another strong result after taking control of the match.
The disciplinary action means both players have received an official demerit point, while the financial penalty stands at 25% of their respective match fees.
